My girlfriend's grandfather is a farmer and whenever she and her parents visit heim he'll give them a huge supply of rice.
It was rice from Akita and it tasted very good, even better when i found out that it was 'made' by her grandfather.

I have a Japanese friend who gives me rice from her family's farm. It tastes better than store bought rice. She says her family can tell the difference between freshly harvested rice and old rice. I just got some new rice and wow - it is a little different! I think it's a bit stickier or chewier.. something like that. hard to explain.

Rice is the number one grain I eat everyday. It is part of my life and that is the same for other people who eat other food. I buy a 50 pound bag every month or so. Since I left home I miss eating rice. I think if anyone who haven't taste rice before may be stuck on it. I mean who here eat rice everyday?

All the rice I ever eat is from school. Actually, I don't eat it. It's nasty and overcooked. Japanese rice must be so much better. I wish I knew...

Japanese Rice here is expensive. I've always wanted to try the sticky rice with those little black beans in it, not natto beans, though....

Actualy. I haven't realy thought much about rice ever. I mean, I have it alot, but I haven't realy thought that rice from Japan tasted any better... Being in the UK... My rice is probably from China anyway. There are a few different types but not lots.

Hmm. Yeah well I'll be in London later this week. Meeting a friend of mine from Hong Kong so we'll probably find somewhere like that.
Actualy. The most common way I cook rice is not in a totaly japanes way realy hehe.
My favourite way is to cook a little paprika in the bottom of a large pan in some olive oil while the kettle is boiling. I put my rice in and the water (1 part rice, 2 parts water) into the pan and a bit of turmuric then keep the heat on it (and a lid) and let it keep going (takes about 10 mins) till all the water is soaked into the rice along with the spices. Ends up with some very tastey orange coloured rice! lol.
