What should i learn first, next, last?

Postby wststreet » Thu 09.06.2007 4:51 pm

Well.... i really think i started the wrong way... actualy.. i'm sure i started the wrong way.

I mostly recognize katakana, a few kanji, i know basic word order, i know some expresions and words from anime, a know very little hiragana.
This isn't the way to learn, can anyone recomend an order to this? Also why does hiragana seem so hard to learn.... i didn't have too much problems with katakana..

Did you go through the Hiragana lessons with the mnemonics? I don't think Hiragana is too difficult, but it is definitely something you should master soon.

I noticed i don't really understand what "mnemonics" are, i have never heard this word before..

The funny thing is.. i searched the dictionary and it seems it's the exact same word in my language too :))

EDIT - Never mind, i found out... mnemonics are those things that help you learn... like how a hiragana character looks like something... and you related that to how that hiragana character spells.. right?

Don't leave kanji "last" as such but once you have learnt hiragana and are able to read some Japanese text you should start too learn some of the basic kanji. A good textbook will help with this as they will usually start to introduce a few kanji at a time.
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Learn hiragana and katakana, then go through this site from start to finish with this page in your bookmarks list.

If you have any questions about what you've encountered, ask them on this site.

That's exactly how I started to learn 4 years ago and I really learned a lot.

Cool. That's what I started doing a couple of weeks ago. Only on to the lesson on particles but I don't get much time to study with work and home life.
