1- ichi
2- ni
3- san
4- yon (or shi)
5- go
6- roku
7- nana (or shichi)
8- hachi
9- kyu
10- ju
11- ju ichi
12- ju ni
13- ju san .etc
20- ni ju
21- ni ju ichi
22- ni ju ni
23- ni ju san .etc
30- san ju
31- san ju ichi
32- san ju ni
33- san ju san .etc
40- yon ju
41- yon ju ichi
42- yon ju ni
43- yon ju san .etc...
see a pattern?
e.g yon ju san = 4 10 3 (43)
its easy if you think of it like this
2- ni
3- san
4- yon (or shi)
5- go
6- roku
7- nana (or shichi)
8- hachi
9- kyu
10- ju
11- ju ichi
12- ju ni
13- ju san .etc
20- ni ju
21- ni ju ichi
22- ni ju ni
23- ni ju san .etc
30- san ju
31- san ju ichi
32- san ju ni
33- san ju san .etc
40- yon ju
41- yon ju ichi
42- yon ju ni
43- yon ju san .etc...

He's a guitar player. He only needs to count to four anyway.
Never underestimate my capacity for pettiness.

What if someone asks him how many strings his instrument has?
Sometimes I think that I'm afraid of thinking, and that scares me.

How will Helen Keller realize he has a guitar?

I think i read or heard somewhere that shi and shichi are used more commonly for 4 and 7 rather than yon and nana... I'm not sure, am i right? Or it's a more casual way of counting. Either way i surpose it doesn't really matter, that's just how it is.

It's the other way around. Because "shi" (4) is a homophone of "shi" (death), yon and nana are much more commonly used than shi and shichi.

Yar, this is what I was told by one of my sensei,
I was told 'shi' also means death, so its better to use 'yon'
