missing post about がてら

I remember someone asked about がてら but I couldn't find the cache because I don't remember the exact title.
To the person who contributed the post, would you mind making a new thread again?

Yeah that was me, I was beginning to think I imagined making the post lol

Question was, can がてら only follow nouns?

The example I had was:

散歩がてらコンピュータを買いに行った。

Could I possibly use this with verbs or verb stems?

Also a little help with 故に would be nice, can it bascially be used like だから?

名詞だけではなく、動詞の連用形にも使われます。
・お客さんを送りがてら、散歩した。
・新しい車を試しがてら、ドライブに行った。

でも、その「がてら」って言う文法は、よく使われないんですよね、日常会話で・・・
