Post by m_ » Sun 06.14.2009 8:59 pm

Hi I wonder if you could explain to me the meaning of ノリ and how to use it?
I have been seeing this word now and then, but can't find any useful explanation or examples on WWWJDIC or Eijiro. I think it has a nuance similar to 雰囲気 but I'm not sure at all.
Here is an example.

Appreciate any comments~!

I found this on the internet:

Given that example you posted it looks like it might mean "rhythm".

It comes from 乗る, one meaning of which is "to go with the flow" (roughly).

Think of the phrase "ride the music".

ノリがいい means everyone is together in one motion. ノリが悪い means everyone is moving in their own direction, and therefore not a very pleasant atmosphere.

Like Chris said, simply translating it as rhythm should work in most cases.

I was thinking in this case that it would be more like Synergy.. or Synchronicity.. (perhaps I'm reading too much into it)
