When is a good time to use
I keep hearing this bit of grammar fairly often and I haven't been able to grasp when or exactly how it's used. I found a short explanation at http://kotobank.jp/word/%E3%81%A8%E8%A8%80%E3%81%84
I have no trouble understanding the usage of 1 but I'm not sure I understand how you're supposed to use 2. I was hoping someone could help me shed some light on this and maybe provide an example on how to use it. Thanks in advance.

this is the only reibun I could find (perhaps you saw it too) I guess its just a conjunction with a more formal/stiff feel to it??

I’m not sure about the usage. It might be a kind of archaic expression.
Only example in our modern usage I can come up with is something like these.
But it looks like only a curtailed version of the definition 1…
Well, anyone has 古語辞典?

That helps more than enough though ^^
I guess it's only really used as in the sense of the first definition. I'll try to remember that, thanks!

Or
These expressions (only one ii) are commonly used. But I have no idea if it has something to do with the definition 2.

I found the link below after a lil bit of searching. Pretty sure it's the same thing, however I could be wrong. Hope it helps.
