Sorry to have to bring up this thread yet again. This ought to be quick though.

顕教　密教 << I understand these terms, which refer to different schools of Buddhism.

However, these combinations came up:

顕教法会　　密教修法

I'm having trouble grasping the significance of the latter two kanji in both

The most important kanji here is 法.
This kanji has numerous meanings, especially in Buddhism. But in this case, both of them in the two terms mean “ritual”.

So, apparently, 法会（ほうえ） means a ritual ceremony, or its gathering.
修法（しゅほう／ずほう） means “performing/conducting the ritual”, a noun.

It can be a huge and glittering ceremony at times. But, you know, the core of the ritual (密教修法) would be something like this, as far as I know.
