Question

Can someone explain the difference of Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji for me? I know Hiragana and Katakana are like the same thing, same sounds, they just look different, but can you mix the two went ever you feel like? Is one better than the other? And can you read Kanji or do you just have to memorize what each one means. And when you use it, do you just take out any Hiragana that you would use to spell it?

Thanks.
