What's the difference between “掴む”, “掴まる” and “掴まえる”？

So what's the difference between them? I know that 掴まるis an intransitive verb and should be used with が, but 掴む and 掴まえる puzzle me as they seem to have the same meaning and are both transitive verbs. I come upon 掴まえる more often though, and was wondering if I just got my verbs wrong.

Also, what's the difference between 掴 and 捕 in terms of verb usage?

So you only need to close your fingers to tsukamu something.
As for つかまえる, its basic meaning is to catch/hug something. So you usually need to use not only your hands but also your arms and other parts of your body. Sometimes you also need to run.


かえるをつかむ (Probably the frog is already in a bottle or can.)

かえるをつかまえる (The frog is jumping away from you. Or you're going to go to a nearby pond to catch ones.)
