Nuance of a personal journal

Postby nikhilkhullar » Thu 08.22.2013 12:28 am

みんなさんこんにちは、

ちょっと面白い質問があるんですけど。

I want to know the "general" feeling or intuitive style when Japanese people write a personal journal or daily-life diary entry...

for example, I intend to write this:
もう決めた、今月からお金をちゃんとmanage-をします。[don't know the appropriate verb... please tell !]

Is it exactly what would be spoken written or is there something different ..?

I know this would be a personal preference as we have in other languages, but still there definitely is a generally accepted intuitive way... Awaiting your replies !

Cheers !

Kind of an obscure question that I'd rather hand off to someone more experienced than try answering, but I can help with the verb question at least.

Managing money in the sense of reducing excess expenditure is most commonly referred to as 節約「せつやく」(economizing) をする

どうもありがとうございます。

I believe I have heard it somewhere in a dorama (that's strangely where I have learnt most of what I use as opposed to the books except for the beginning days... :D)

The Kanji seems hard for me at this level, but I will definitely remember the word now... Thanks ^^

And feel free to share any experiences with the "diary" nuance... If you have been with 日本人s :)

Regards

Japanese diary style...?

Since I'm Japanese, I don't know what Western diary style is like, and maybe Japanese diaries may be almost similar to yours.
anyway...
Japanese people traditionally (? - probably under influence by famous diaries as literature) tend to describe, the date and the weather at first, even the weather has no importance
Then write lines with no "I" as a subject, and in a plain form (not -masu form) with
present tense.

Example:
1月23日 晴れのち曇ときどき雨
January 23th, clear then cloudy, sometimes rain
郵便局に行って安倍さんに旅行の資料を送る。
Goes to a post office and sends some information of the trip to Mr Abe.
(literally translated. he sent brochures or such)

But actually I don't know what common people write on their diary. Because diaries are basically private, it's very likely there's no rule and they write as they want in any style.

@shin1ro さん

Thanks for the insight. Based on your words, does this below look like a normal Japanese diary entry :

2013年8月28日
今日も雨だった。天気も、人生にも。
新しいプロジェクトを初めてまたがんばる。いつかぜひこのシステムは夢見たいな鳥と同じように飛ぶ、そう思って歩く。
昨日のメールからちょっと傷つけたけど人生の道を歩くことがまだできる。

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

Please correct any mistakes that are there in the language as well. Just attempted to write some lines trying to follow the style that you have mentioned...
