Hello everyone! Does anybody know of a Japanese compound dictionary? I've been looking for one for some time now with no luck so far. I don't mean a Kanji dictionary, but rather something that explains why /how certain kanji combinations add up to have a particular meaning. Something along the lines of:
電車
Suggests the meaning of an electrical (電) vehicle (車).
I think it'd be very useful for kanji compounds in which the meaning is more obscure or history-related. Ex.
中国
Central (中) nation (国). In ancient Asia, the "Chinese" considered themselves to be the center of culture and trade, thus being known as the "central nation" of the ancient world.
Is there anything like this?
Japanese compounds dictionary?
