Learning Kanji

Postby nak » Fri 11.25.2005 1:22 am

Just a quick question, I've been learning kanji recently and was just wondering if it was nescessary to memorize everything in the definition?
For instance, 行 is yuku, but is the KO, GYO, AN also important to memorize?
It's not all that much more work, but it's starting to get annoying because of all the repetition.

thanks

Try to learn vocab words that use all of a kanji's readings to make it less about memorization of sounds and more about practical application. That way, it won't feel so pointless. All the readings are important. Gambatte!

It is very important to learn all the readings of a kanji but on and kun.
Goals:
1) Have decent proficiency in Japanese, enough to get around/talk/read/write.
2) Visit Japan for a week or so one summer.
