adjectives

hello i have a problem: with the adjectives. i know how to connect them in past tense.
for an example ひろい+明るい is connected like that 広くて明るかったです。but hiroi and akarui are both positive adjectives (as our teacher said they have a positive meaning) what do i have to do if i want to connect a "positive adjective" (like hiroi) and a "negative adjective"(like samui) in past tense? does anybody has an idea?
