came across this sentence.

実際にこれらの目標を実現するのに欠くべからざる役割を果たしてきた

first part, "In practice, in order to realize these objectives....."

second part.........???

third part: "role/duty was played ..."

what's that stuff in the middle mean?

The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all.

I think it is bekarazu in verb form.

"The reality is, in acheaving these goals, an important role could not have been lacking." or somethink. Frickin' vauge...

heh, i found that example... and another:

実際にこれらの目標を実現するのに欠くべからざる役割を果たしてきた。
These bodies have actually played indispensable roles in attaining these goals.

水は生きるうえで欠くべからざるものだ。
Water is essential life. (i think there may be a 'to' or 'for' missing in there)

欠くべからざる seems to mean indespensible.

Which is a one word version of what I said...
The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all.
