can't figure out this simple kanji X(

Post by Pasokon » Sat 02.11.2006 7:39 pm

Hey everyone,
This is a pretty easy kanji, I just can't find it. It's from a game, so I can't paste it for you. Anyway, it's the fishhook kanji レ, and it has two horizontal lines through the middle like 二, but the lines are equal. What does this kanji mean? Thanks

could you be talking about the hiragana "に" or perhaps this, "仁"??

it was も actually. I've been spending to much time with kanji, starting to forget simple hirigana and katakana.

I have a Kanji question too. It is also from a game so I can't paste it. It came up repeatedly during the game. It is very similar to the 子 symbol, but there's no horizontal slash through the middle and the line on the top is longer. Also, unlike this Kanji where the vertical line simply curves to the left down at the bottom, the Kanji i'm talking about ends as a straight line and a seperate little line takes the place of the curve at the bottom of this 子 Kanji. I couldn't find that Kanji on this site. Can anyone tell me if they might know about that Kanji and if so, what it means and how it's pronounced?

That reminds me of the time I was standing in front of my students, and suddenly could not for the life of me remember how to write む. I finally had to get one of them to come up and write it for me on the board. I was mortified. :o

Takeo, was it a game you were playing on the computer? If so, screenshot it. :)

If it was this one by any chance 了, then it's pronounced ryou, and stands for "complete, finished, or understand".

By the way, this も(mo) comes from 毛(け、モウ) meaning hair, in fact all kana comes from Chinese characters, see here. Just for your info, this 毛 is pronounced "mao", "mou"(close to "mould"), "mor" in Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien respectively.

も as a particle means "also".:D
