とんと

I've been reading a couple of Japanese folk tales lately, mostly to see how good my grammar skills are, and I've come across this phrase fairly often: "とんと昔あったと"

I've got most of it figured out, but I can't find a definition for とんと. Does anybody know what it means?

ああ、どもありがとございます。

And you're right, that is a very good dictionary (definitely better than my thin little beginner's dictionary).
