Two questions on a song

Postby Takoyaki » Mon 01.12.2009 2:17 am

I was reviewing an old song I had translated, and I have two brand-new questions about it. This is Matsuura Aya's "Get up! Rapper".

Here are the lyrics wherein my two questions lay:

-----------------------------------------------
Women turn colors beautifully

This is a rule before falling in love.

For women, the color they are obsessed with is rouge.

No doubt about anything.

Nothing, no worries,

None, none, no problem.

Women won't lose.

It is why, why, simple, why...

Why, why, it's absolute is why...

Women are a puzzle is why...

The age one becomes a good woman is 30.

But our underwear which startled you is beige.

But as for the heart, everything is simple.

No doubt about anything.
-----------------------------------------------

Ok. Question 1) All those ナンデ's are blurring together for me. Sometimes it seems it's being used like "because" abbreviated from なので→なんで and the rest seem like the usual 何で. Perhaps both are equally common and I just don't know? It seems impossible to be sure which use is which here.

Question 2) This may be more of a non-language related question (assuming I translated it correctly)...but why on Earth would Beige underwear be startling, lol. I don't get it.

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

気を抜いた is not "startling", but lazy, relaxed, unfocused or careless, i.e. if she cared she would be wearing sexy lace panties (勝負パンツ) or something, but on a lazy day, she just wears plain beige underwear.

Boy I got that one mixed up. I originally found the definition for 気を抜く I was using on the 大辞泉. It was definition number 2. I guess I should have used definition number 1!
