One phrase I am stuck with. Help is appreciated.

There is this phrase I am stuck at for about an hour and a half:

AAAの支配地と言えば、相応に一目置かれる
要所が殆どだった。

I will greatly appreciate If anyone would be so kind to explain how to approach the phrase, including the meaning of
支配地
相応に
一目置
and
要所が殆どだった。

in the given phrase.
Thank you in advance.

So... you've been working on it for an hour and a half, and have absolutely nothing to offer up for correction?

Well, things that I come up with do not glue together and, thus, do not make any sense:

要所が殆どだった。
I translated "that was the key point"

AAAの支配地と言えば
Speaking about the AAA's control (governing) of the place

相応に一目置かれる
It adequately observes(?), through observation (?), here I am lost.

Speaking of the place AAA rules,

要所が殆どだった。

most of it was the important matter

相応に一目置かれる

of suitably being acknowledged as superior.

Thank you. It still feels like a tattered phrase, but the meaning is more clear.

AAAの支配地と言えば、相応に一目置かれる要所が殆どだった。

The phrase 一目置く comes form Go 碁, where it refers to the fact that the weaker player starts by placing the first stone, thereby acknowledging that the other player is stronger (hence the dictionary meaning "to take off one's hat to a person; to acknowledge the superiority of the other".

richvh already translated the sentence, but perhaps the first equivalent in Edict is slightly more appropriate given the context of an AAA meeting? It could then be something like "Speaking of the place the AAA rules, it was mostly [about] being acknowledged (appropriately) as someone to whom one takes one's hat of".

Or perhaps plural? "Speaking of the places that the AAA controls ... " ? Or could it be metaphorically, something like "the area that the AAA dominates is acknowledging you as ... " ?
