登板
Hi everyone, I have seen this word and I don't understand what does it mean: 登板する (とうばん).
I have serched in a dictionary and it gives this definition:
taking the plate; pitching a game.
I have seen this in the White Rabbit Press' Japanese kanji flashcards, number 623, for more information.
Because I am not a native English speaker I find it very difficult to know what does this mean. All what I have been able to discover is that it has relation with sports, such as baseball. Could somebody explain me what does this mean, or offer a translation in Spanish, please?

Re: 登板
If you don't like or know baseball, it's not a very useful word -- it means "to act as the pitcher in a game of baseball". If you want more information than that I guess you can look up baseball articles in wikipedia.

Re: 登板
It's a baseball term.
It means to appear in a game as a pitcher.
野球で、投手がマウンドに立つこと。投手として出場すること。
彼は今シーズン初登板で勝ち星をあげた。
He won in his first appearance of the season.
作シーズンj彼は50試合に登板した。
He pitched fifty games last season.

Re: 登板
Ok thank you.
I don't need more information, I just didn't understand the definition in Enlgish, so I could not deduce the meaning, as I always do. I just didn't understand the expression used in English, and, as it was not only a word, the English dictionary was not useful.
I searched in wikipedia and only discovered it has something to do with baseball, but not more. It was an example of the kanji flashcards and, as it was an isolated word, I could not deduce its meaning.
I don't think I'm going to use this never.
Anyway, thanks.
