I don't "have it memorized" as anything. I use this language every day in my personal and professional life; I don't have to translate my thoughts into Japanese, my thoughts simply appear in Japanese and exit my mouth as-is.
My remarks about ている were stated in a way as to help a newer student realize what they weren't quite understanding. They were not intended to be an in-depth explanation of the grammatical point (that's what I have you for!).
I think your input is very valuable to this forum, but it might be a good idea to practice saying things in a more neutral way
