I bought "Beyond polite japanese" a few months ago.
It's probably not wise to mix it in with my studying as i may pick up some words that will leave my mouth unwillingly.
Still a very interesting book.
Examples:
ガキ (Hungry spirit) can mean (when used "correctly") something similar to the english a**hole or dumb sh*t
Used in a sentence:
このクャKキ、お前みたいなやつにオレの気持がわかるか

It also has Yakuza slang and lots more.

がき just means a small kid, or a punk kid. It has some rude connotations, but not to the degree you've written..

くそがき is of course a different matter, entirely...

Yep, you're right, i just checked the book again. がき is not offensive, but　くぞがき is.

I have to agree with saying that swearing in Japan isn't really swearing, but rudeness.. probably save a few words that I haven't heard that you have talked about.. I am kinda conservative when it comes to stuff like this, but I just thought I would mention that in anime words like kuso and stuff are often translated into d*** and that really bothers me. Since, in reality, kuso has no alternitive meaning, it is just an interjection. If kuso really did mean d*** then there would also be the translation kuso as an action or a noun. Translating it into swearing is only the translators way of "embelishing" it. Something that I would prefer them not do!
