Translation in general question (not a specific question)

Hey guys

I am taking a translation test and will hopefully lead to a job that I really want. I have no experience translating and only have 2級 so my Japanese is far from perfect but not too bad either.

I have been told there will be two areas covered in the test. A technical translation and a creative translation that involves reducing text to fit a word count or area. Am I correct in assuming that technical translation will require a more consistent structure and 用語 that is easy to understand and follow. While in creative translation, translating descriptive words and those little extra meanings will be more important?

If anyone has any tips, I would be really grateful for them.
