まで出かかった in phrase Xは喉まで出かかった言葉を飲み込んだ

大輔は喉まで出かかった言葉を飲み込んだ。

I'm pretty sure it's translated as "Daisuke swallowed the words in his throat".

But I'm just wondering the usage of まで出かかった here. My best guess:

喉まで
Up to the throat

出 (is this read as で still? までで sounds kind of funny)
rising?

かかった (掛かる？)
hanging

喉まで出かかった言葉
rising words that hung in the throat?

Did I deconstruct that correctly?

出掛かる【でかかる】 hasn't made it into WWWJDIC yet, but here's what the dictionaries at dic.yahoo.co.jp have to say:

A literal translation would be something like Daisuke swallowed the words that had (made it/gotten/come out) as far as his throat

I think the translation of 出かかった means to go out, but for that tense I think it's "gone out"
so I think the translation of that sentence is "Daisuke swallowed the words that had gone out through his throat"
