How do you write most English names in Japanese?

Postby DustinF1989 » Mon 11.14.2005 5:28 pm

I'm looking to find out how to write my, and my friend's names in Japanese. I'm assuming you would use Katakana (could you use Hiragana?), and would the name be any different if you made it into Romaji? I don't know how yo do my name, Dustin, but if someone can help me do that I might be able to get how to do others...

http://www.takase.com/Names/NameInJapaneseD.htm

It lists names in romaji/hiragana/katakana and some kanji if they exist.

So yes, names can change a little or a lot when pronounced in Japanese.

Thanks for that info!

Is there any way to tell how a name would change from English to Japanese, without looking on that site?

Well, if you know how the Japanese alpahbet works, you can ususally figure it out on your own, but you have to be familiar with the kana first.

For example, my last name is Perhac, in Japanese, it's pa-hakku
