Can you translate this Utada Hikaru song?

Post by MFoogle » Fri 05.19.2006 4:26 pm

ok, this song is called "Simple and Clean" (i love this song, especially in the remixes--Utada really outdid herself with this one) and i want to know how to translate this. If you could, could you please translate this into literal terms please? i think it helps me learn more. (ex of what i mean--i am just putting basic sentences here for an example:

watshi wa inu ga totemo suki desu

translation: I dogs really like

--i really hope i didnt confuse anyone)

anyway, here is the song:

donna tokidatte
tada hitoride
unmei wasurete
ikitekitanoni
totsuzen no hikari no naka megasameru
mayonakani

shizukani
deguchini tatte
kurayami ni hikari wo ute

imadoki yakusoku nante
fuan ni saseru dakekana
negai wo kuchi ni shitaidake sagasou
kunimo shoukai suruyo kitto umaku ikuyo

donna tokidatte
zutto futaride
donna tokidatte
soba ni irukara
kimi to iu hikari ga watashi wo mitsukeru
mayonakani

urusai
toori ni haitte
unmei no kamen wo tore

saki wo mitooshi suginante
imi no nai koto ha yamete
kyou ha hoshii monomo tabeyouyo
mirai wo zutto sakidayo
bokunimo wakaranai

kansei sasenaide
motto yokushite
one scene zutsu totte
ikeba iikara
kimi to iu hikari ga watashi no scenario
utsushidasu

motto hanasouyo
mokuzen no ashita no koto mo
terebi keshite watashi no koto dake wo

donnani yokutatte

kimi to iu hikari ga watashi wo mitsukeru

motto hanasouyo

Translating a song in that manner would be very confusing to all. Usually, even in the source language songs aren't that literal.

Songs aren't a very good way to learn Japanese. I strongly recommend that you buy a good textbook, as I said before.

What you're probably looking for there is actually 'hikari' not 'simple and clean'. It is a fair amount to ask for a full literal translation there, seeing as how there are already numours traslations already out there...

If you have any specific questions as to how the above persion arrived at their translation, I'm sure there'd be some of us on here that could lend you a hand.

I belive 'simple and clean' is pretty much the English version of 'hikari'...
