Kanji for "You"??

Post by Deo » Sat 05.20.2006 12:13 pm

Hmm.. maybe my Google skills have diminished, but I could not find the Kanji for the word You. A common word I assume so there is probably Kanji for it.

Anata is the romaji form right?

My dictionary states
貴女
as outdated Kanji so I'm left with only the Hiragana form..?..?
あなた

Spot on, we use あなた not 貴方。 But remember there are other ways to say 'you' varying on the situation, きみ 君 and おまえ お前、each getting less polite. Of course, if you know the other peson's name just use that.

I believe there is no kanji for あなた. I also don't think there's a kanji for あんた, is that right?

There *are* kanji: 貴方. As a contracted/slurred form of the word, あんた is technically kanjiless, but the kanji still apply, much as 私 serves for わたくし, わたし, and even to an extent わし. But the thing is, no one (normally) uses the kanji -- it is written in kana as a rule.
