JLPT in 4 Months?
Starting from virtually complete beginner does anyone think it would be possible to pass the JLPT 4 this time around?

RE: JLPT in 4 Months?
Possible, yes, but that _really_ depends on how much time you'll use on _only_ japanese studies.

clay says in this article:
4級 yon kyuu
I cannot speak from experience about 4級 but I have heard that people who have only studied Japanese even a few months can pass it. Most JETs [foreigners hired to assist Japanese English teachers in schools in Japan] come to Japan in July. It is very possible to start studying in July and pass the test in December. It will take work, but it can be done. The first 100 kanji can be learned relatively easily + hiragana + very basic grammar.

Try watching japanese shows and anime. That's good practice, I think

It's not that I'm not knowledgeable, I just have trouble explaining the things I know ;)

Hey he did say JLPT _4_, so I reckon he's got a fair chance.
Now why anybody should want to take JLPT 4 is another question.

RE: JLPT in 4 Months?
you can pass level 4 in like a month of studying... level 3 took me about 2 months of actual hard core studying. I started studying Japanese in May of 05 and turned it up about 8 notches a couple months before the test. They say the Genki 1 text book is equal to level 4 so just do that. (Genki 1 and 2 is level 3) But honestly there is nothing you can do with the JLPT level 4 certificate. All it is made for is motivation to study.

From the qualifications of 4kyuu, I really do not see why you couldn’t do it. Then again, how motivated you actually are also plays a big part in it. I say go for it. In the end, you really have nothing to lose.

In the past few years, they have beefed up 4 kyuu, but I think it is still possible with just a few months study. You would be at a disadvantage if you live outside Japan, though.

Practicing with past tests is by far the best way to prepare.
