Caroline
It might be a good idea to 〜 (?)

Thanks Coco-san and Tanuki-san for the log.
I read the log, but there's one question I didn't get it.
I don't quite understand this question, so I asked my friends. They said this type of question is like someone murmuring to oneself.
for example:
While I was reading a important letter in my room, the phone rang. So, I walked out the room to answer the call. When I returned to my room, I couldn't find the letter. At that time, I said 「大事な手紙がない、どこにおいたのだろう?」 (("Eh....The letter is not here, where has it gone to?"))
大事な手紙がない << this one was.... very weird to me
How about this, "彼がいない”? << After I understood this, then that sentence made sense.
大事な手紙がない << this is not person.
Hope I got it right.
------
This is my attempt:
1)
(hmmm...where is the letter? It ought to be somewhere ..... / I'm sure I put it somewhere ....)
2)
Coco-san, please don't smack me ....

RE: Related curricula – 3kyuu study group
Coco-san, thank you very much for all the information. I read that with lots of pleasure (and of course, due attention).
I tried to goo といいかもしれない、and got 0 match; I guess my error was to start from といい and try to see what would go after. I used for that a recent acquisition (どんな時、どう使う : essential japanese expressions - with three cups on the cover) that gives (at 3 kyuu, so I guessed I could understand it- fatal error) といい as hope or recommendation "would be good if ~ "
As for this quizz, I'm slightly puzzled...

I don't quite understand what we're supposed to do with the sentences. Just put whatever is grammatical? I'll try...

I've just been going through the last log (and I didn't do too well
) but I learnt a lot.
what exactly is meant with "listening lessons" and "3-4 dialogs" ?
(Edit: probably the above exercises?)
Wow, I've constantly been misreading this sentence as:
"it's not an important letter, but we probably should send it somewhere....."
boy, I've got a long way to go.....

Not hijacking the thread, I hope :
Do you know if there is still the provision to be over 60% for every part of the test ?
The question arises from the fact that I took an old test today, and my score on listening was... under 60%. (I don't expect to be as lucky this year as last year
)
I can bear to have a global average score - as I definitely have little time to study this year, and holes like pits in my knowledge - , though my pride will suffer
, but not to pass? I guess I could if I had to, but would rather not.
Obviously, the priorities we set during last session are most welcome.

OMG Caroline, if you didn't do so well, how will I do?
You're scaring me a little.
I don't have as much time to study this year as I did last year, either. I'm basically aiming for a "pass" score, but not passing?

Don't panic, Tanuki-san!!!
The 60% for every part of the test my teacher told us about 2 years ago does not seem to be in force now : I went to look at the thread on the results last year, and there were a lot of "pass" with under 60/100 on listening. So I think lazyness prevented me to have the answer to my own question...
so, for my punishment, I have to give the result to the listening part :
- part I, the one you can rely heavily on pictures : 10/14
- part II, the one that really is listening : 5/13 (nervous laugh)
Take that out as eliminating factor, and the "pass" score (my aim as well) is well within reach : the test is actually less difficult than coco-san's training as the red-herrings are quite often far more obvious. Praise to her, she's a good master!

I am always worrying about listening part. There is a potential for zero for that section.

RE: Related curricula – 3kyuu study group
Yesterday I spend over half an hour staring at 分かっている in a sentence before I realised it was the simple わかっている。
that really had me worried!
But just now I watched an episode of Oshin (japanese subs only) and I understood almost everything, so that really gave me a boost!
I'm not too worried about the listening part, I spend a lot of time listening to Japanese on my mp3 (stuff that goes with Japanese for BP, mostly, but also several stories) and the listening tests seem to have a much slower rate.
And now that I downsized to learning for JLPT3 instead of 2, I hope the bulk is more manageable???
Tanuki, I would have thought you'd breeze through this exam? You seem to have a pretty solid stack of basic knowledge.

errr.... but then watching TV programmes, you have the playing/acting on the screen even if you don't fully understand the spoken part ...., yes, no ???
On actual day, it's totally basing on your listening skills, and it plays only once.
I've always found the conversation's incredibly long, for me it's just hard to catch.

Let me disagree, SS : there are always the questions like :
sequence : eat/watch TV/ go to bed.... quite easy if you eliminate one after the other!
what's left : he/she eats this and this : and you have the plate : same process of elimination...
Add to those the ones you really understand (and you do, I know that)... and you should be OK.

Do that : it tunes your ear, no matter what. I did that last year, and got the best of it. Even though it sure will be different on december 2

No return button? Darn!
But You're absolutely right, of course! It's just that I prefer to pretend things are going to be easy as long as possible
And Caroline has got some good points!

If Clay and Yumi do more chapters of ゆきの物語 I'd use them. For now I'm working through 2004 JLPT 聞き取り and have 2006 incoming from the japan shop.
