I hope it starts soon, or for those taking the test the time wont be enough.

And it still has to be stated what resourses we will use right? I can't recall if that was decided already.

What text books (if any) are everyone using at the moment? I've got the JLPT 4kyuu study guide from Unicom, but that may not be the best one, since it doesn't have specific exercises. Should cover everything we need, though.

That's good. You could tell what order it goes and so, so we would have structure, and we would follow through it.

I'm using Genki right now. But i also can get Japanese for Busy People from a friend.

We could choose one and then scan the pages we will cover in the meeting to the rest of the people that don't have it. Though i'm not sure that is right, even though it would be only a few pages at a time, like some teachers do.

Hehehe, how ironic. I wanted to try out Genki 1 but the book was a little bit expensive compared to JFE, it's not a bad book but from the reviews I read Genki 1 is really good. Well at least the mp3s sound really nice :D

Yeah, wanna trade? Lol.
I wanted JFE, because firstly, it's just one book, secondly, it has the solutions at the end! And lastly, because it just seems to be a good book.

What do you think of it? (I don't want to start going off topic here so if you want to answer in PM, would be great, if not, that's fine.) :)

I think we should definately start this weekend at least. Even if this week is not structured, it will still setup that time on the weekend for the study group.

Hey, have we discussed where everyone is, yet? Assuming we've all been studying solo for a little while, we'll most likely all be at different points. Maybe it'd be an idea to just state what we've gone over so far?

*points to signature* and I've got about a 5th of the vocab words listed for 4kyuu on this site (even though I'm still a bit shaky on a few). Not really sure how to measure grammar and such, but I think I'm alright with the basics.

I'm a beginner beginner. I can read both kana fine and I know maybe a little more than half the kanji on the list. But my grammar and vocabulary is not that good at all.

Well, i havent had much time to actually sit down and do some serious studying, so I can read all kana, and 7 choice Kanji. (hah)
When it comes to grammar and vocabulary, um I dont really know. I can do a little.

What's 'choice' kanji?

I also haven't had much time to study, since i've been kinda busy with school and all that. But i know kana, though with katakana i'm not so good. I mess them up a little bit, but i've also never sat down to study them, i just pick them up as i need them.

Kanji i know a few. Not the readings and all the meanings and the like, i just know how to read them in certain words.

Grammar i can say i don't know much, and vocabulary the same. I really need to work on these. ^^'

'Choice kanji' are:

人 学 中 年 高 天 午 毎

Those are just the ones that I've had to learn. I mean I can recognize a lot more, but I don't know them by heart.

Ok. so far everybody agrees that we need to work on grammar and kanji. Is that a possible topic of discussion for our first meeting?
