June 24's Lesson Summary
+homework

This meeting was pretty active, we had thirteen people if I counted correctly. It was fun watching the messages swarm when I ask questions haha n_n

Today we worked on two things: a verb conjugation, たい, which changes the verb into "to want to do"; and the adjective 欲しい, meaning "wanted, desired", which works like 好き in a sentence.

If anyone missed it, definitely check the logs, as this is a useful thing to know. A lot of us are in the room even when there's not a meeting going on, so feel free to come in at any time and ask any questions if you have any.

As for homework, you have sentences to translate and words to learn.

Please translate:
"I want to go to Japan."
"I want a Kimono."
"I wanted green tea."
"I do not want to drink green tea."
"Tanaka-san wanted a pencil."
"Yukiko-chan wants to see a movie."

Remember that たい is used when you want to do something, and ほしい is used when you want something.

Necessary vocabulary for these sentences are:
行く 【いく】 godan verb; to go
日本 【にほん】 n. Japan
着物 【きもの】 n. Kimono
お茶 【おちゃ】 n. green tea
飲む 【のむ】 godan verb; to drink
鉛筆 【えんぴつ】 n. pencil
映画 【えいが】 n. movie
見る 【みる】 ichidan verb; to see, to watch
雪子 【ゆきこ】 name: Yukiko
田中 【たなか】 name: Tanaka

Your other homework is to learn words 51 through 80 (30 words) on the JLPT4 vocabulary list found at http://jlptstudy.com/4/index.html (click on the "Vocabulary" link).

Please also learn the Kanji 食、本、見、and 読. These are all required for the JLPT4 test. The necessary vocabulary for these words are 食べる、本、見る、and 読む.

All of this homework will be put up on the website.

Once again, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to go into the room and ask. Thank you everyone for coming to today's meeting and participating and I hope to see you all next week. ^_^

(Katafei, try and just edit your post if no one as answered after your last post and not create a new post. ^^)

Anouncement :p

For the purpose of this group, and so everyone has better access to every information and materials discussed, I created a webpage, with the help of some people. ^^

It's still being worked on, so the pages are a bit empty. Also I've been having some problems when trying to upload things, so things are being uploaded slowly.

Here is the link to the webpage: http://www.freewebs.com/jlpt4

Also, for the benefit TJP, I'll be mentioning it several times since it's such a good resource. :)

Hope you like it!

June 30's Lesson Summary
On June 30th, we reviewed the homework I assigned and worked with conjugating na-adjectives. There was no homework other than to practice the conjugations. There is a helpful chart that I made on, which can be found on the website.

July 1's Lesson Summary
Today, Ryper had a w00t-tastic lesson on the て-form of verbs, a very useful form, which required learning the formal past tense, and finally -ましょう and -ましょうか with which you can say things like "Let's ____!" and "Shall we ____?"

If you were not able to make it to today's or yesterday's meeting, please check the logs so that you can get caught up!

As for homework, you have verbs to change and words and kanji to learn.

Change these forms into the -ましょう form. 5 denotes a godan verb, and a 1 means it's an ichidan verb.
遊ぶ 【あそぶ】 5, to play
見る 【みる】 1, to watch
教える 【おしえる】 1, to teach

Change these verbs into their ーて forms.
寝る 【ねる】 1, to sleep
教える 【おしえる】 1, to teach
笑う 【わらう】 5, to smile
休む 【やすむ】 5, to rest
泳ぐ 【およぐ】 5, to swim
座る 【すわる】 5, to sit
立つ 【たつ】 5, to stand
聞く 【きく】 5, to listen, to ask

Your other homework is to learn words 81 through 90 (10 words) on the JLPT4 vocabulary list found at http://jlptstudy.com/4/index.html (click on the "Vocabulary" link), AND to review all words 1-81! Don't forget them, they're all important!

Please also learn the Kanji 少、休、円、and 雨. The necessary vocabulary for these words are 少し、休む、円、and 雨. These are all required for the JLPT4 test.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to go into the room and ask. We can't stress this enough, we're not going to bite, pleeease feel free to ask questions.

Thank you everyone for coming to both meetings.

(Ryper says: "You can also mention that I didn't make either posts because I was/am too busy trying to catch up to you Shock.....freakin genius")

I'm intrested in joining this, but at the moment i'm on vacation so i don't have regular access to the internet to attend the chat sessions regularly. I'm going to try to look over what has been done so far and review those.

July 7's Lesson Summary
+homework

Today we utilized the て form, which was taught last Sunday, by learning how to request using てください (and later on をください), to ask for permission with てもいい(ですか), and the Japanese equivalent of the English -ing form, ている/ています (the latter being more polite).

I didn't see some of you guys there so if you were not able to make it, be sure to check the logs! ^_^ All three are fairly simple, but VERY useful things to know.

As for homework, you have some sentences to translate! We will more than likely go over this homework NEXT Saturday, giving you a week to do it.

1. These sentences are requesting something.
a. 笑ってください。 | わらって ください。
b. 日本語を教えてください。 | に本ごを おしえて ください。
c. 100円をください。

2. These sentences are asking for permission.
a. 明日、映画館に行ってもいいですか? | あした、えいがかんに いっても いい ですか?
b. 休んでもいいですか?

3. These sentences are stating that the subject is doing something.
a. 私は走っている。 | わたしは はしって いる。
b. あなたの猫は食べている。 | あなたの ねこは たべて いる。
c. 彼女は立っています。 | かのじょは たって います。

Necessary vocabulary for these sentences (and for JLPT4!) are..

verbs
笑う 【わらう】 5, to smile or laugh
教える 【おしえる】 1, to teach
走る 【はしる】 5, to run
立つ 【たつ】 5, to stand
食べる 【たべる】 1, to eat
休む 【やすむ】 5, to rest, to have a break, to take a day off
行く 【いく】 5 (special class, does not conjugate like a normal verb sometimes; past is 行った, te is 行って), to go

nouns
猫 【ねこ】 cat
映画館 【えいがかん】 movie theater
日本語 【にほんご】 the Japanese language
円 【えん】 Yen (Japanese currency)

pronouns, etc
彼女 【かのじょ】 she
明日 【あした】 tomorrow

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to go into the room and ask.

Thanks for coming today, see you all tomorrow!! n_n

I'm sorry I'm so late to ask this, but is there any room for me to join as well. I understand that three (?, or more) lessons have already happened. I've finally come back to studying Japanese after a consuming second semester of school.
