Should I take JLPT4 or JLPT3 (just finished Genki 1)?
Hi all,
I nearly finished Genki 1. I just need to review few things, while I wait that my Genki 2 order is arrived.
So Should I take (this year) JLPT4 or JLPT3?
Here is some sort of list what I know:
Vocabulary:
I nearly know all jlpt 4 and Genki 1 vocabulary and few JLPT 3...
Kanji:
All 103 JLPT4 and about ~20 JLPT3
I think that biggest problem is Listening Comprehension. I only seen some anime, few Jdrama and Let's Learn Japanese Basic 1 (1-26).
Is it too late to start study JLPT3?
And is there any good book that I definitely need to read (or study) befor JLPT test?

I'd suggest JLPT4, since you've only just started 3. Unless you can learn all of the level 3 material in time...
If you take JLPT4, you can still study for JLPT3 and get a head start.

I have almost exactly the same problem, by biggest issue is listening comprehension. Although, I am almost done with Genki II, so I was wondering if i should take JLPT 3. But for safety sake since I hardly studied at all of the summer I forgot a lot of stuff and aren't as sharp as I was. Plus I asked my teacher just going off of what we've learned so far she thought it would be a good idea to take JLPT 4.
So maybe you should stick with 4!

If you buy the past exams from Clay-san as Gundaetiapo-san has suggested above they come with a CD of the listening comprehension so you can test yourself out.
Listening comprehension is my weak point also

Listening comprehension tends to be a weak point unless you have had the ability to interact with others speaking Japanese. Of course conversing with a native is even better... I've always found the reading portion of the tests to be the most difficult. Mainly due to the lack of kanji in my memory banks..

What's the equivalent of this in the new JLPT level?

The JLPT site has a comparison of the new and old test. New 4 is approximately the same as old 3 and new 5 is approximately the same as old 4.
