"satoru" is a somewhat archaic-sounding verb and is particularly associated with religious insights -- just use "wakaru" instead.

"modorimasu toki" is really formal and polite language; typically you should just use the plain form when you're modifying nouns (so "modoru toki" instead).

Personally, I say go ahead and use romaji in a journal if you want. Practicing Japanese in romaji is better than not doing it at all.

昨晩は、お母さんの車は子犬Daisyを殺しました。>>昨晩、母の車がDaisyという子犬を殺しました。*Or 殺してしまいました* would probably be better. Since this is a public diary, and we're your out-group, you should use 母 rather than お母さん.
自分の子犬から愛した。>>自分の子犬だったから、大好きでした。* I could be wrong, but I think that 愛する is a little too strong an emotion to use with a pet, and for this sentence only you slipped into plain form.
場面についてを悲しんだんです。 - I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here. Maybe 場面を見ると、悲しくなりました。*
でも、お母さんは約束を作りました>>でも、母は約束をしました。
お母さん「新しい子犬を買う」といいました。>>母は、「新しい子犬を買う」といいました。

Although 母 is technically right, younger people use お母さん or 母さん/ちゃん to refer to their own mother more often these days, I think. But I'm not completely sure; that may have just been Tochigi.

Also, leaving out the は after 母 in the last sentence is fine if you're consciously doing that because this is a casual diary entry written in a spoken-style language. Otherwise it should be there.

You're mixing plain and polite forms.

何もないしている - You're trying to say you don't have anything to do? Or you aren't doing anything? I'm sure that's wrong. Not doing anything - 何もしていない. Don't have anything to do - maybe することはない, but I'm not sure myself.

[got] - if you mean "have", then ある, if you mean "received" then もらう/くれる.

I'm always mixing plain and polite forms. I'd need conversational practice to help me avoid that, but I don't talk to many people who notice and it's a hard habit to break.
