We had a lot of information stuffed into our brains today, so let's retain some of that. Actually, it'd be best to remember all of it. n_n
First we had a lesson taught by me on three particles: と、とか、and や. と is used for complete lists, whereas や and とか are more vague. とか is also the same as や、 just slightly more casual.
Afterwards, Ryper taught us about the positive ーて form of i-adjectives (change -い to -くて) and na-adjectives (simply add で), as well as the negative ーて form.

It was pretty full in the room, 16 or 17 people! Thank you to everyone that came and stayed. Please read the logs if you missed out on anything!

As for homework, you have some sentences to translate! Please also check the previous page as you have things to translate for yesterday as well. If this homework is too much for you, doing only one sentence from each section is okay, but it is still preferred that you do all.

{ homework for particles }
1. These sentences are listing complete lists. Translate from JP > EN or EN > JP.
a.　私の猫と魚と犬が笑っている。　｜　わたしの　ねこと　さかなと　いぬが　わらって　いる。
b. (I) need a fork and a plate.

2. These sentences are vaguer listings. Translate from EN > JP. Please use とか with one and や with one.
a. (I) want (things like) candy, hats, maps, etc..
b. (I) like (things like) movies, light bulbs, chairs, etc..

{ homework for -te forms }
1. These sentence list i-adjectives.
a. The cat is interesting, white, and cute.
b. The fish is small and black.

2. These sentences list na-adjectives.
a. Her room is pretty and quiet.
b. This car is strong and perfect.

Worked on the homework and had a small "lesson" about これ、それ etc. versus この、その etc.



[center]July 15's Lesson Summary

Today we worked on conjugating verbs into their casual negative and past negative forms. For ichidan, we drop る and replace with ない, and for godan, we dropped the final う, changed it to an あ sound and added ない. An exception for verbs that have a vowel before う (あう、あらう) is to change う to わ.

As for homework, you have verbs to change and some sentences to translate; as well as kanji and vocabulary.

Change these verbs to their casual (we haven't taught polite yet) negative and past negative forms.
教える　【おしえる】　1, to teach
寝る　【ねる】　1, to sleep
会う　【あう】 5, to meet
笑う　【わらう】　5, to smile
遊ぶ　【あそぶ】 5, to play
休む　【やすむ】　5, to rest
泳ぐ　【およぐ】　5, to swim
座る　【すわる】　5, to sit
立つ　【たつ】　5, to stand

Your other homework is to learn words 91 through 115 (25 words) on the JLPT4 vocabulary list found at http://jlptstudy.com/4/index.html (click on the "Vocabulary" link). Knowing vocabulary is very important! Don't take it lightly!

Please also learn the Kanji 目 and 買. The necessary vocabulary for these words are 目 and 買う. These kanji and vocab are required for the JLPT4 test.

Speaking of vocabulary, on the test will we be expected to recognize words with higher-level kanji, or will those words be in hiragana? An example from the previous post, oshieru.

I just got back from vacation a few days ago, and I am now interested in joining. I'll try to join the next meeting and see how much i know, and then spend the next few days reading the logs to catch up on all the stuff i missed.

[center]July 21's Lesson Summary[/center]

Ryper and I both had plans and therefore were not able to make the meeting. Since there was no one to teach, we planned on doing review of conjugations. Turns out that both of us could make the meeting. XD We still had a fun-filled time with review. Only three people came, if you didn't come then all you missed was review.

On July 22, we learned more about ko/so/a/do words, and had a lesson on 方がいい, a grammar very useful if you want to make a suggestion.

Thanks to everyone that came to the lesson. If you missed it, which I'm sure most of you did as only about four people came, please check the logs.

As for homework, you have some sentences to translate; as well as kanji and vocabulary.

Translate these sentences from English > Japanese:
1. "You should sleep." literally, "the way of sleeping is good".
2. "You should eat cake." literally, "the way of eating cake is good".
3. "You should not run to school." literally, "the way of not running to school is good."

All of these sentences are suggestions, suggesting the listener to not/to run to school, eat cake, etc.


Translate these sentences from Japanese > English:
1. 日本語を勉強した方がいいです。　にほんごを　べんきょう　した　ほうが　いいです。
2. たくさんケーキを食べない方がいい。　｜　たくさんケーキを　食べない　ほうが　いい。

Required vocabulary for these sentences as well as the test are: (from WWWJDic)

Your other homework is to learn words on the JLPT4 vocabulary list found at http://jlptstudy.com/4/index.html (click on the "Vocabulary" link). Knowing vocabulary is very important! Don't take it lightly! At the pace we're going, we recommend you do 116 through 145 (31 words), but Ryper's going to talk a bit about that in the next post.

Please also learn the Kanji 国, 外 and 人. The necessary vocabulary for these words are 人（ひと）、外人（がいじん）、外国人（がいこくじん、国（くに）、外（そと）、外（ほか）. These kanji and vocab are required for the JLPT4 test.
