JLPT2 chat study group
Whether I pass 3級 or not, I'm going to try and take 2級 in Dec. '07. I figure it would be a good way to seriously improve my skills. Also, since I'm thinking about applying for the CIR position instead of the ALT in the JET Progamme, I figure I need a serious boost in my Japanese abilities sooner rather than later.
So is anyone interested?

well, I'm actually going to apply for JLPT2 this year as well, but I have to admit it's probably above me. I'm only doing it to challenge myself and keep me on my toes.
so, I may have a hard time keeping up with your chat, but I would love to tag along..... or just listen.

Sounds interesting. However I'm in a similar situation as katafei, maybe 3級 would be better for me. But yeah I'm interested, I guess I could give it a shot.

Well, we could always start a JLPT 2½ group
this link actually provides a list of the necessary grammar.
I have no idea how complete the list is, though.

Wow, that is quite a bit to learn. But I'm more worried about the vocabulary since 2級 requires a tremendous ammount of it.
But thanks for the link. I've been to that site before but I guess I underestimated its importance, it's a good way to continue my studies since I've mostly been doing nothing about my japanese since I finished reading through Tae Kim's guide.

The JapanShop sells sample exams. Try them out and then decide which to register for.

I don't think I'll actually take the JLPT 2 test, I'm just doing this to improve my japanese. I want to see how much I can improve in just half a year.

I've got a couple, and they sit very comfortably on some book shelf
I will register for 2, since it makes no difference whatsoever if I pass or not. It will be a lovely excuse for a trip to London.
(I've considered Paris as well, and even though I love the city and the French (language)), I can't remember the last time I was in London!
I wonder if anyone knows if you can change the level at the last moment?

As the JLPT application guidebook makes no mention of how to alter any information in your submitted application other than 1) possible typos in your name/address and 2) changes in permanent residence, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to change your choice of level.
But, c'mon, just sign up for 2kyuu. It's not that hard. I mean, it's not like some of the questions/passages are only one word different from 1kyuu questions...

You're probably not as smart as you think.

I highly doubt that.
