Lessons offline?

Hi Clay!
There are so many users who really love to work with this site. Did you ever think about making a CD out of the lessons to make offline work possible?
As far as I am concerned - would be no problem to pay for it!

Hi,

Long time ago (in a galaxy very near here), I actually did offer the website as a whole for complete download. But after a while the bandwidth issue came up and had to remove most of the downloads. Now it wouldn't even be possible because almost 100% of the site is in a database, not HTML.

I do hope to make more PDFs or packages for download in the near future. One goal is to make it easier to follow for the very beginner. Right now tjp is just a collection of random thoughts that occasionally strike a tune...

Perhaps...were you hosting the site off of the site? Could you get other places to host, like fileplanet or cnet? Im just throwing some ideas around....for the heck of it...

just to make life difficult...

the use of a database is not really an issue. it's good for the dynamic stuff here, makes updating and adding new information nice and easy. however, it's pretty trivial to whip up a few templates and a couple scripts and create a static HTML only version from the database information. in fact, if the kanji part of the site ever gets slow because of the dynamic aspect it is possible to do the same on the site, after updating the database run a script to regenerate the static HTML pages. it's just a matter of diskspace vs CPU vs time.

as for bandwidth, there's always bittorrent. or maybe we could get enough interested people to timeshare the hosting.

for people that wish to download websites (well, if the admin permits and encourages it - depends ^_^) there is always WinHTTrack http://www.httrack.com/ ^_^ although i think it would have some trouble due to the structure of TJP - however, even saving the pages with Firefox could be buggy because of this, i havent tried it yet but i had some of the old TJP downloaded with a website downloader and it was fine, but i dont think the old TJP was database based.
