Is this correct?

I felt like translating something that popped into my head into Japanese, so I looked up the relevant vocabulary.

母さんが耳の聞こえない子供を教えます。

I'm pretty sure it's grammatically correct, but I just wanted to check.

It is grammatically correct.

However, I have a feeling that 耳の聞こえない子供 is not the way that "deaf children" would normally be expressed in Japanese -- I could be totally wrong about that, though. Also, you should just use 母（はは） rather than 母さん when talking about your own mother to someone not in your family.

Okay, thanks, will bear 母 in mind. I initially looked up deaf in the WWWJDIC, and found various colloquial phrases, but no appropriate adjectives. So I had a look in a minidictionary I have, which only listed 耳の聞こえない with no explanation. I did think it seemed a bit literal...

Actually, I hear 耳の聞こえないOO quite a bit, especially since my wife went partially deaf a couple weeks ago due to stress.

耳が不自由 is also used, although it feels more "official" in it's usage, like something that a 役場 employee would say, rather than something you would say in casual conversation.

She's slowly getting better. Hopefully she'll be completely healed by the time school starts back up in Sept.
