How are they looked upon in Japan ?
Are they seen as bad as tatoos ?
I dont mean all over your face piercings.
I have a pierced lip and eyebrow,
would i be seen as trouble or the likeS ?

Well, you won't be refused service at onsen or sento, but you won't make the best first impression, and forget about finding a job.

RE: Piercings ?
For women, pierced ears are very common. For men, very uncommon. Other piercings, such as nose, lip, eyebrow and tongue, are pretty uncommon, and generally indicate self-association with a fringe subculture, such as gyaru.kawada2998 wrote:

That said, I believe that belly button piercings are becoming a little more common among young women. Probably because it doesn't stand out when in regular work clothes.

RE: Piercings ?
These days in Japan it is women without pierced ears who are rare.
Women with multiple piercings in their ears (sometimes 7, 8, or more...usually on one side) aren't uncommon. I have a (probably unfounded) preconception about them, but as this is a family-friendly forum it wouldn't be appropriate to expound upon it here.

piercings in general are becoming more common all over. however, they still look as absurd now as they did before. Especially the mulitple piercings in one body part, whether it be ears, nose, eyebrow, etc.

the up side to piercings is you can just take out the metal and they will heal over. Even if it becomes a problem, it's an easily solvable one.

RE: Piercings ?
I'm not sure why, but I tend to like belly button and tongue piercings and smaller nose studs. However I don't like eyebrow / nose / lip rings, they look kinda random and ostentatious to me.two_heads_talking wrote:

I also seem to like tattoos on girls, especially if it's a lower back tattoo. Which is strange because those lower back tattoos seems to be found most often on a particular type of college girl (sorority / party girls I guess) which I wouldn't otherwise be that attracted to.
Personally though I'd never get a piercing or tattoo. I don't have any interest in piercings, and while a tattoo might be cool I'm too indecisive and would immediately regret whatever I got the second I walked out of the parlor.

As I said in that thread, I find pierced ears in men quite tacky. Eyebrow rings are pretty hot, though.
As for tongue piercings, well, erm, I also have a "preconception" about those.

RE: Piercings ?
it all depends on the piercing. with some of them, the piercing distends the skin and cannot repair itself. with heavy guage rings and plugs without suregery, the skin will not be able to repair itself. with one exception, and that is the tongue, it has an uncanny way of being able to fix a normal piercing within 8-12 hours.Dehitay wrote:

I would suggest depending on the style done, it can be not easily solvable up to the point of impossible to fix.

It wasn't appropriate to expound upon it then either.tanuki wrote:Well, you already did.Mike Cash wrote:

Wanna guess what I thought Tony's post said when I first saw it?

I will never date a girl with tattoos. They gross me out.
