I'm sure the hunks appreciate it.

Never underestimate my capacity for pettiness.

When eating something like rice with chopsticks, I basically pick up the plate or bowl and hold it near my mouth while I shovel the rice in. I'm not sure how acceptable that is, but it's incredibly effective.
It's common, but slightly uncouth. If you're at some kind of dinner where you want to make a good, serious impression, I'd advise against it. But if you're just kicking back having some food with family and/or friends, no one will think the less of you for it.

When I eat rice with chopsticks, it usually is sticky enough that it stays in decent sized chunks, unless I use too much pressure with my chopsticks.

ChopstickS? Plural? Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong.
I always wondered what the spare was for. I always stuck it in my rice bowl for luck.

That reminds me of something actually. Never ever stab your chopsticks into your rice if your not using them. It's considered extremely rude because it's symbolic of sticking incense into an incense burner to remember the dead. Set them down on the side of your bowl or plate, or put them on the hashi rest.

Fool! Don't you know that's rude!
You're supposed to clean your ears with it.

Sometimes, I use my chopstick to skewer my futomaki and eat it like corn on the cob.

It's rude to open your mouth wide, so you can avoid it by eating the rice through your nose. That is why there are 2 and they are just the right shape for this.
