持っている Wow. Never knew that.

So, I was at class this morning, and talking about movie stars and agents. I wanted to say that an agent can have many stars under him.

マネージャーは色々なタレントがいる。

This is wrong. The correct way would be マネージャーは色々なタレントを持っている。

This blew my mind. I, like many people, was taught that 持っている can only be used for things, not people. But apparently it is perfectly ok to say 子供を持っている. or 妻を持っている,etc...

Just thought I'd share.

Nope, not only people lower than you. you can say it about your wife as well. I wouldn't say it directly to someone of higher rank than you, though.

もし、私の英語の解釈が間違いがないようでしたら
マネージャーは色々なタレントを持っている。
という阜ｻも、あまり使わないと思います。

「（芸煤jプロダクション には いろいろなタレントがいる」
という阜ｻでしたら、正しい日本語だと思います。

マネージャーが主語の場合には
「マネージャーはいろいろなタレントを受け持っている」
という阜ｻが考えられます。　「持っている」　ではなく　「受け持っている」。
この場合の意味は
「一人のマネージャーが何人ものタレントのマネージャーを兼務(=けんむ)している」
という意味になり、おしゃろうとしたことと意味が変わってくるように思います。

agent　→　　プロダクション　に置き換えれば
当初の文章が近かったのではないかと
思いますが　いかがでしょうか？

目上、目下に関する議論については
「持っている」の使い方が 少し違うようなので、またの機会に。

最近出来た先生にその文法を教えてもらったが，色々な日本人と相談に乗ったら，やっぱりあの先生がちょっと間違ったと思ってきました。

いつも新しい習った情報を，もっと詳しく調べないといけないと思います。考えずに習った事を信じたら，自分の日本語がだんだんダメになる恐れがあるので。
