In a rush, I decided "sushi"...Ohhh boy.

Post by TheIrishSin » Wed 10.10.2007 8:26 am

So in my speech class in highschool, we're preparing a speech where we have to Demonstrate something. and in a foolish rush I decided I would prepare sushi. Now here I sit struggling with everything, trying to find little things to add to my speech, as well as struggling to find the ingredients to even prepare it.

Any advice on preparing sushi, or maybe little facts on sushi, I have quite a bit, but I need more.

Or pretty much anything on proper sushi etiquette, that I could point out to the class.

This is typed out in a rush so sorry for any ingorance or grammar errors haha.

Irish, I am not sure why you mention grammar errors and then not include something with errors in it.. lol..

what is it you want? a review of what you have put together? or just facts?

My advice would be to re-think your choice of topic, and select something you have more knowledge on. I'm sure you are probably more knowledgeable on other cultural practices. Does it even have to be a demonstration of something Japanese? Or can you demonstrate something you know well, in the Japanese language.

However: try google for sushi :D!

Wikipedia is your friend as always.

As for advice, if you ever hit up a revolving sushi restaurant, don't steal someones order, it's helluva annoying.

Since it's a high school, speech class, in Michigan I'd be very surprised if the speech is in anything other than English.

If you need to make sushi in a hurry, a quick way to shape the rice is to wrap it in plastic wrap and squeeze it all into one little pouch

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sushi

Read everything you can find about Sushi, starting with the link above. Then just pick out some key information about it, and talk.

In terms of preparing sushi... well, if you're a high-schooler that could be kinda difficult. I suppose you could go and buy the ingredients and try to make it, or just take the ingredients in to show. I havn't spent much time in America, but I know that most large supermarkets in england sell the stuff to make Sushi - so it shouldn't be too hard to get

LOL. Of course, I just had to post it. :p
When I showed it to one of my best friends (she's not the smartest fish in the pond) she actually thought that EVERYTHING was real. :p I made her watch the video about two months ago and after a few weeks I told her that everything wasn't completely factual.
