If you download Firefox and use the Adblock plugin, you can get rid of the animated avatars and sigs with that.
(I also generally associate animated avatars with clueless newbies so I was a little surprised too, but there's no rule against it.)

I was JUST checking the rules and stuff and I'm thinking:
"There's nothing wrong!"
Plus, my icon IS TJP related for supporting t-shirts... I especially made this icon for TJP! Previously, I've used moving icons too!
I feel so bullied. You make me cry.

Eh, i like it. I don't use one, for those people who still use dial-up, but i don't mind them at all. And, as stated above, you can shut them off in Firefox.

Thank you for being so considerate. I have dial-up.
Ahh. It makes me feel good that I'm thought of with my crappy computer and all of the others suffering...

I don't care about the size; I find the animation distracting when I'm trying to read the posts.

Oh c'mon Hatori, people throw away perfectly good computers these days. My neighbor threw away a PC that had an AMD XP 1800 chip, 512 megs ram, a G-force 4 vid card, and an 80 gig HD. Come to find out, he had a bad stick of Ram in it.
Of course, it helps if you know a bit about windows to troubleshoot, but you should look around. You can buy really nice barebones sets these days for dirt cheap.
After that, we will have to work on your internet connection lol.

Those don't come by as often as one would like, but sometimes if you check your local computer shop, (not any of the big box stores!) you might find a decent used machiene at a very reasonable price. Other place to look is your local hamfest. Most are turning into ham/computer swaps. (IIRC, you are in the US. Check with the ARRL for a list of hamfests in your area)

This is true on so many levels. Also, check the local paper. People with little PC knowledge tend to sell thier old machines when they get new ones. These same people also buy a new PC every other year.
sorry for the derail, it was unintentional.
A new video card may help the OP's woes as well. If he is using on board video, it takes away precious CPU cycles. It sure would help if the OP listed his machines stats. I may have a reasonable and cheap fix.

Might not be so bad if the text size was legible, and the frame speed slower.

RE: Animated avators
What I especially don't like about the avatar is that making it an animation wasn't really necessary. She could have slapped "Hatori wants TJP shirts" onto the first image and we wouldn't be having this discussion.
