RE: Animated avators
Are your attention spans that limited? Honestly, i am NOT taking shots at anybody, but are you really distracted that easily? Personally, i was diagnosed with ADD when i was 4 (yeah, what a crock ADD is). I am Hyper Active ... blah blah blah, but, blinking lights do not deter me lol.
Annoyed is one thing, but to say you can't focus with the blinking lights ....

Yes, it bothers and distracts me, which is why I use adblock not to see it.
I'm not singling out Hatori here (although the TC was); I hate all animated avatars and sigs.

Well, Taitekisan, i wasn't aiming that at anybody special. Your a smart guy, and i doubt you fall into the "ADD" category, but i get distracted when the wind blows. I have had to work pretty hard to do anything in this life lol.
I have overcome many obstacles. Learning japanese is my new project. I will learn it. I WILL NOT let simple things, like blinking avatars, deter me from my goal.
A wise man once said ... "Don't sweat the small stuff."
This falls under "small stuff" IMHO.

Learn the difference between "mean" and "frank".

"Mean" and "Frank" are the same thing if you have seen a couple "M*A*S*H episodes.

Like Yudan, I tend to have a "that must be a newbie" reaction when I see an animated avatar... nothing against Hatori personally, it's just that the really young internet users who are fond of caps-lock seem to love the animated stuff.
However, I don't know how someone could be distracted so much that they have a harder time reading posts, unless it was a massive animated avatar and sig crowding the text or something. And making a thread for it... sheesh. This is the internet though, land of mountains made from molehills and pointless quibbling.
Which I'm contributing to. Um, kumbayah everybody?

Don't worry, Noob, you aren't the only one in the ADD category.
Now, "Mean" and "Frank!" being the same depended on who was saying it. Hot Lips was pretty hot headed, and angered easily.
From any other charecter, that name didn't really come off as mean, just as a little off...
EDIT: Forgot the exclamation point

There are so many fun icons, it's hard to resist making them cool and flashy... AND CAPS LOCK! I HATE CAPS LOCK!
Anyway, I don't understand why everybody is making this more of a big deal than this really is. I give tanuki an evil glare...

RE: Animated avators
ack,
That avatar is horrible. Not only is the frame rate too high, but it's in NEON green. How can anyone not be distracted by blinking neon green?
Really, change the colors to something more muted and slow the frame rate to once per 5 seconds and people wouldn't mind.
and it's not even readable. Why put words in your sig if they are too small to read?

The obvious allusion, which whooshed right by you, was to Major Frank Burns....who was mean.

Frank: "this is the last straw!"
Hawkeye to Macintire: "remind me to order more straws."
I love that show lol.

I don't think it whooshed by him -- "Hot Lips" being another character from the show.

Exactly. Note Noob's quote above for my point. Chris realizes I was referencing the head nurse, Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Hoolahan.
Now how did we get from talking about animated avitars to a show set in Korea again?

It's magic! Plus, they didn't have animated avatars during the Korean war, or internet. They only had Radar.
