Postby sephani » Fri 09.23.2005 11:57 am

i've been searching, researching and typing my lil heart out this past 2 weeks looking for 2 japanese names.......for my new identicle twin kittens......

so here is my question....

if:
ichi=one
kuro=black
hoshi=star
and
hana=flower

then:

itchikurohana = one black flower?
and
itchi juro hoshi = one black star?

is that correct?

please help!

Not really.... "Ichi" and "kuro" are not adjectives... so they shouldn't be used in the way you used them.

And "ichi" just means 'the number one'... not in the sense of 'a single'... you would need to use "hitotsu."

The adjective form of 'black' is "kuroi" ("kuro" just means 'black, the noun').

So "one black flower" could be "hitotsu no kuroi hana." (I could get into the counter for flowers (hon) but I don't think you care about it that much, so I won't bother cuz it's a bit confusing. ^_^ )

For "one black star," it would be similar: "hitotsu no kuroi hoshi."

You could spice it up with some SMAP too, maybe. Say "Hitotsu dake no kuroi hana/hoshi"--the ONLY black flower/star. XD

That doesn't mean you should use them incorrectly.

The most interesting part of your post is that 8 of your 18 words are grammatically incorrect.

These would be terribly un-Japanese-like names.

If that doesn't bother you, though, then kurohana would be fine as is.

I would avoid "black star" (which would be pronounced kuroboshi), because it means "failure." :o

FYI, lots of Japanese people give their pets very cutesy-sounding nonsense names like "Pekko-chan" or very ordinary, run-of-the mill human names like "Jiro."

Maybe:

Kohana - Little flower
Hoshiko - Star child

Or HANAKO (flower-child) and HOSHIKO (star-child) if you want them to sound similar.

They'd even have kanji. ^_^ 花子=Hanako  星子=Hoshiko

Yuki / Yoko
If i get a baby in the future and it's a girl i would like Yuki as a name and dress her up in pink Hello Kitty clothing while wearing those supercute "squeeky-slippers"
I'm a guy, but seeing those cute japanese girlies just does something to me. They make me want to pick them up and cuddle them, haha
I won't do it though, because i would probably be thrown in jail.
