Saddest Anime Ever?
RE: Saddest Anime Ever?
I don't think that everyone has the same prospective on what is sad, and I can't really think of any I would classify as "saddest." I remember "Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien" being kind of sad and "Soukou no Strain" was too. Claymore is also pretty sad.
Arrrr?

well i, personally, found grave of the fireflies one of the saddest animes that i have ever seen. I started crying half way through and didn't stop until i went to bed that night. Then again i also cried when Butterfree left in Pokemon :p B)

hehe, I wonder if I will choose to be sad if I see gravitation some day.
Yeah, grave of the fireflies was saddest. Chobits is sad too. The most emotional for me of course was Maison Ikkoku, it's happy but I cried.
Onions make me cry when they are sliced open, but they are not sad.

RE: Saddest Anime Ever?
There's a number of animes that I'd consider quite sad had they not used elements that destroyed my suspense of disbelief (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - the waitresses; Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora - Spider Mask; Saishuu Heiki Kanojo - the lack of tactical skills on Chise's side and the weird ending).
The sadness in Haibane Renmei is fully compensated by happiness in this story.
So except for the inevitable Hotaru no Haka, my choice for the saddest anime ever would be Ima Soko ni Iru Boku.

I think Kanon [I prefer 2006] was very sad all the way to the second to last episode. Mostly tears because of all of the events that happened to poor Yuuichi.
I can only try my hardest. =]

oh! i so agree about full metal alchemist! that show had a really lot of very sad parts. some people think its weird... i think they think that because for me, i at first thought it was kind of stupid that they try to bring dead people back to life, but...
it's just human nature. and that's what alot of the show is about, and i think its really, really deep. but it did make me cry alot!
these are some good suggestions for animes to watch, now i too really wanna check out gotf you guys keep talking about (but when you say grave of firefly and grave of butterfly are you talking about the same thing, or different?)

Gunslinger Girls was pretty sad, and Naruto has had some sad moments in a couple of episodes and manga. I also agree with you about Full Metal alchemist.
