I seriously doubt it is possible to add furigana in excel; it's a spreadsheet, not a word processor.
What are you using excel for, that you want to add furigana to words?

少なくとも、日本語版excelであれば使えます。
(1) メニュー経由
(2) 右クリック(コンテキストメニュー)経由
(3) PHONETIC関数
ただし、この機狽ヘ自動生成が目的の機狽ネので、あまり使われていません。名簿などでフリガナが必要な場合は、別途、フリガナ用のセルに記述するのが普通です。

Re: How I can use Furigana on excel 2007
This IS possible, and it was possible with Excel 2003, but much easier to find!
Go to the top and "Customize Quick Access Toolbar. It is the drop down next at the very top of your Excel, next to the Office button.
Select "More Commands"
In the drop down, choose "All Commands"
Find Phonetic Guide and Phonetic Settings. Add both of these to the right side.
Be sure to exit by clicking OK.
Now, these commands should be available to you from the top ribbon.
You may need to change some office settings, like add Japanese to your editable languages (Office Tools). I also had trouble getting any furigana with Office set to edit in English, and had to change the primary language to Japanese before it would work.
Good luck!

If it can I haven't been able to find it.
It is certainly available in OpenOffice Writer, Format -> Asian Phonetic Guide. The help text indicates that it should be the same for Calc but the options aren't there.
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

Hmm, I checked it and you're right... weird stuff.
Well, at least it's available in Writer, so thanks a bunch for this tip, chikara!! ^^
(but oddly enough, in my version of Writer it's under Format -> Ruby... might be because it's in German although I selected the English version >_>")

Re: How I can use Furigana on excel 2007
I'm using OpenOffice 2.4 as well now after the last update, but I'm using the German version, god knows why (must've clicked a wrong button while installing), I have a very weird language mixture throughout my system and the software although I'm starting to prefer the English versions since I can ask about them more in case I'm lost or so.
Well, but maybe knowing that in at least one other language, this feature is not to be found under <Format -> Asian Phonetic Guide> but instead under <Format -> Ruby> is not a bad thing to be

Re: How I can use Furigana on excel 2007
I found a way to use furigana/ruby in excel 2007
what i did was open up the office 2007 language options by going to the Microsoft Office Tools folder on the start menu, and click on the Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings.
After this, I changed my "Primary Editing Language" to Japanese. Then i restarted Excel and a button was added on the bottom right portion of my the fonts section of buttons... if you hover over it, it will say "show or hide phonetic field."
