I listen to quite a bit of japanese rock, but it might be too heavy in comparison to the bands you've stated. These bands are Boredoms, melt banana, and sigh. It seems like you might be into X japan, or a band like dir en grey, eastern youth, luna sea, or thee michelle gun elephant. Best of luck on your search for great music, as it is the language of the soul!

Marty Friedman

BUMP OF CHICKEN
Mr.Children
Kahimi Karie
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION
サンボマスター
BONNIE PINK
CHARA
山崎まさよし
tasukeru kotoga dekiru nara
tasuketai to omou.
dakedo eigo ha nigate.

ah, how in the world did I forget the pillows??? I highly recommend you give them a listen, and watch FLCL (fooly cooly) if you're into anime and want to see their music set to some serious brain-warping visual action.

A few bands in that sort of style are:

The Back Horn (Youtube sample of Requiem from the rather awful movie Casshern (don't let the fantastic imagery fool you, it's basically terrible). They're perhaps on the slightly more emo end of metal

The Sex Machineguns (I'd liken them more to a Japanese Iron Maiden perhaps, there an old school glam metal style band, one of my favored tracks is suspense gekijou but they really aren't to everyones taste.)

GOGO7188! - I like these guys a lot recently, the female vocalist is slightly haunting, some of their stuff is kind of punk orientated though if that puts you off. My favorite track is Ukifune

X-Japan - Timeless to be honest, I'm a fan of their ballads as well, they're reforming next year so a great time to get into them, choose from pretty any of their tracks, it's all good but a few of my faves are Kurenai, Weekend and the imaginatively titled X

The Massmissile - Not so well known by comparison but enjoyable enough for the slightly more upbeat punk orientated listener. Here's one of my preferred tracks Kyoushako

Hope this helps ;)

While there are many who play the guitar, there is only one true guitarist in all of Japan, and his name is Tomoyasu Hotei.
