why not men?
In the audio example of every language software I have ever head it is predominately females, why is this?

That's a good question.
I've some French and Japanese ones, and they seem to be mostly female. Some of the Japanese podcasts I have are male, though... interesting.

I remember hearing once that women tend to enunciate better and they are easier to understand.
of course, as for me, i think they sound much more appealing to listen to.

Because boys are mean and rough. You can listen to the women more easily when you WANT to.

Well, in my CDE class, we learned that humans are psychologically more inclined to listen to female voices. Probably has something to do with servival instincts. Mom=food. That's why babies pay more attention to high voices, and that's probably why even men raise the pitch of their voice when they speak to infants.
This has actually been proven through research as well, but I'm too lazy to give sources now.

I think I was watching "Can you speak American?" or some such programme, and they mentioned that a particular company (I forgot which) chose a female voice because the men and women in the panel felt like a male voice was speaking down to them, instructing them, and the female voice was more generally associated with helping them, serving them.
