When did you begin studying Japanese and how long have you been studying?

I started 2 years ago, so that makes it two years.

I really wonder though why make a thread like this, where the information that will be presented is absolutely useless.

My first encounter with Japanese was 4 years ago through this website... But I haven't been truly "studying" Japanese till last semester.

Started studying in earnest sometime around February 1985

About 1999-2001 and then again February 2007-current.

Mostly off for about six years. Seriously since about September. So not very long. I did learn most of the hiragana when I started studying, though, so it was easy to pick them up when I started seriously.

I took 2 quarters of introductory Japanese while stationed there in 1981, then resumed study in the summer of 2005.
