學日語對東方人來説應該不會很難，我們所佔的優勢就是對日文裏的漢字非常熟悉。但說不難，要葡B出一口文法漂亮又流利的日文，真的沒那么簡單！

您的問題其實也是很多華人的共同問題，總是記不起ひらがな，它的發音。我想，除了不斷地背，多講，不斷地練習之外，也沒有更好的辦法了。

Isn't there a way to write Cantonese with chinese characters? I know that probably in general they prefer to use standard Chinese writing but I remember hearing that it is possible.

This is an English website and quite a lot of people here cannot understand Chinese. It is better to use English or Japanese in our discussion instead of Chinese.

Writing in Cantonese is possible but not common, this is just used in some informal situation.

Plus there *are* some differences in vocabulary and expression. For example, the hanzi meaning "wife" in Mandarin means "lover" in Cantonese (or is it the other way around?).

Not really. Standard written Chinese is not equivalent to either standard spoken Mandarin or standard spoken Cantonese, but it's very close to standard spoken Mandarin and not so close to standard spoken Cantonese. If you take something written in standard Chinese and pronounce all the characters with their Cantonese pronunciations, the result would is not standard Cantonese -- it would be largely incomprehensible to an illiterate Cantonese speaker. When Cantonese speakers learn to read Chinese, they have to learn standard Chinese grammar and vocab as well, although it's an easier task than learning a whole new language.
