Beginner Hiragana question

Hello.

I have checked the FAQ section and nothing seems to be relevant. But I apologise if this has already been asked.

I am currently teaching myself Hiragana (mainly using this site) and I have noticed a difference in the symbols depending on the source. For instance the Hiragana for Sa, So & Ki is often shown in two ways. With Ki & Sa especially it is sometimes shown with a full loop at the bottom with the whole symbol connected and sometimes shown as a tick at the bottom, not connected to the rest.
I apologise for my poor description.

But I was wondering if there is a definitive answer to which is correct? Or if they are sometimes used differently.

The two variants of "so" are a bit more interchangeable, I think. The "print" version is sometimes seen in writing... I was originally taught the "print" version even though I was taught the "handwritten" versions of "ki" and "sa". The first time I encountered the "handwritten" version (way back when I was first trying to learn Japanese) was not in handwriting, but in a video game, where it mildly confused me. (The game uses the print versions of "ki" and "sa".) But the general tendency does seem to be to have a horizontal first stroke in print and a diagonal first stroke in handwriting.
